Building a longitudinal cohort from 9-1-1 to 1-year using existing data sources, probabilistic linkage, and multiple imputation: a validation study.
The objective of this seven-county study was to describe and validate construction of a population-based, longitudinal cohort of injured older adults from 9-1-1 call to 1-year follow-up. Results showed that a population-based emergency care cohort with long-term outcomes can be constructed from existing data sources with high accuracy and reasonable validity of resulting variables.

Agreement between Medicare pharmacy claims, self-report, and medication inventory for assessing lipid-lowering medication use.
This paper analyzed the agreement between Medicare claims for lipid-lowering medication (LLM) and LLM use. Many Medicare beneficiaries reporting LLM use or having LLMs in a medication inventory have no claims for these medications.

Trajectories of symptoms and function in older adults with low back disorders.
The researchers sought to determine whether there are distinct trajectories of back pain and function among older adults and to identify characteristics that distinguish among patients with substantially different prognoses. They found that, although most patients remained relatively stable over a year, latent class analysis identified small groups with major improvement in pain, function, or both.

Functional improvement among short-stay nursing home residents in the MDS 3.0.
This study examined the completeness of the activities of daily living (ADL) items on admission and discharge assessments and the improvement in ADL performance among short-stay residents in the newly adopted Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0. It found that the ADL self-performance items are complete at both admission and discharge, with less than 1 percent missing for any item.

Form CMS-2728 data versus erythropoietin claims data: implications for quality of care studies.
The purpose of this study was to compare predialysis erythropoietin-simulating agents (ESA) care reported on Form CMS-2728 with Medicare claims for ESA treatment submitted for patients 67 years and older at initiation of dialysis with Medicare as the primary payer. It found that the agreement between Form CMS-2728 and claims data is poor and discordant results are observed when comparing the use of these data sources to predict health outcomes.
