Assessment of attitudes towards future implementation of the "Surgical Risk Preoperative Assessment System" (SURPAS) tool: a pilot survey among patients, surgeons, and hospital administrators.
Implementation of the Surgical Risk Preoperative Assessment System (SURPAS), an innovative real time, universal, preoperative tool providing individualized risk assessment, may enhance informed consent and reduce adverse outcomes. To ensure optimal development and implementation of SURPAS the study authors performed an in-depth pre-implementation evaluation of SURPAS at an academic tertiary referral center in Colorado.

Pilot testing Fall TIPS (Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety): a patient-centered fall prevention toolkit.
Patient falls during an acute hospitalization cause injury, reduced mobility, and increased costs. The laminated paper Fall TIPS Toolkit (Fall TIPS) provides clinical decision support at the bedside by linking each patient's fall risk assessment with evidence-based interventions. The investigators examined strategies to integrate this evidence into clinical practice. They concluded that engaging hospital and clinical leadership is critical in translating evidence-based care into clinical practice. They address and detail barriers to adoption of the protocol to provide guidance for spread to other institutions.

A validated web-based tool to display individualised Crohn's disease predicted outcomes based on clinical, serologic and genetic variables.
The researchers developed a validated, individualised, web-based tool for patients and clinicians to visualise individualised risks for developing Crohn's disease complications. Their web-based tool displays an individualised predicted outcome for adult patients with Crohn's disease based on clinical, serologic and genetic variables. This tool can be used to help providers and patients make personalised decisions about treatment options.
