Development and validation of trigger algorithms to identify delays in diagnostic evaluation of gastroenterological cancer.
This study’s authors developed, refined, and tested trigger algorithms that identify patients with delayed follow-up evaluation of findings suspicious of colorectal cancer (CRC) or hepatocellular cancer (HCC). Using data from the Veterans Affairs electronic health record database, the researchers developed an algorithm that greatly reduces the number of record reviews necessary to identify delays in follow-up evaluations for patients with suspected CRC or HCC.

Controversies in the management of low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer.
This article addresses the controversy that exists over optimal management of low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer. It discusses the fact that lack of physician consensus results in wide variation in patient care, with some patients at risk for over- or under-treatment and highlights the need to design and implement studies to address current knowledge gaps.

College health as a partner in the care of pediatric cancer survivors.
The authors reviewed an initiative to educate providers on pediatric cancer survivor care and to establish a cancer survivor registry in a college health center. They concluded that, through education and optimization of health informatics, college health centers can identify and provide survivor care to this medically vulnerable population.
