Beyond Dr. Google: the evidence on consumer-facing digital tools for diagnosis.
Direct-to-consumer (DTC), interactive, diagnostic apps with information personalization capabilities beyond those of static search engines are rapidly proliferating. Little is known about the state of the evidence on the performance of these apps or the methods used to evaluate them. In this paper, the authors conducted a scoping review of the peer-reviewed and gray literature for the period January 1, 2014-June 30, 2017 to examine the current evidence base on DTC, interactive diagnostic apps.

Patient, provider, and system factors associated with failure to follow-up elevated glucose results in patients without diagnosed diabetes.
Patient, provider, and system factors associated with failure to follow-up elevated glucose values in electronic medical records (EMRs) are not well described. The researchers conducted a chart review in a comprehensive EMR with a patient portal and results management features but found no associations between patient characteristics, diabetes risk factors, or provider characteristics and follow-up failures.

Multi-institutional randomized trial testing the utility of an interactive three-dimensional contouring atlas among radiation oncology residents.
The present study reports on the efficacy and usability of a web-based contouring atlas compared with those of existing contouring resources in a randomized trial. Compared with the residents using currently available resources, the residents using eContour had improved contour agreement with both the consensus and the expert contours for the high-risk clinical target volume and greater agreement with the expert contour for the contralateral parotid gland.
