Patient, provider, and system factors associated with failure to follow-up elevated glucose results in patients without diagnosed diabetes.
Patient, provider, and system factors associated with failure to follow-up elevated glucose values in electronic medical records (EMRs) are not well described. The researchers conducted a chart review in a comprehensive EMR with a patient portal and results management features but found no associations between patient characteristics, diabetes risk factors, or provider characteristics and follow-up failures.

Increasing consumer engagement by tailoring a public reporting website on the quality of diabetes care: a qualitative study.
The goal of this study was to determine if tailoring quality reports to persons with diabetes mellitus and co-occurring chronic conditions would increase user engagement with a website that publicly reports the quality of diabetes care. It concluded that tailoring can be used to improve public reporting sites for individuals with chronic conditions, ultimately allowing consumers to make more informed health care decisions.

Understanding patient portal use: implications for medication management.
The authors sought to (1) understand who uses an existing patient portal and reasons for use and nonuse, (2) understand how portal users are using a portal to manage their medications, and (3) explore participants' ideas for improving portal functionality for medication management and adherence support. They found that patients use portals to manage their medications, are enthusiastic about further leveraging portals to support medication management and adherence, and those who use a portal more frequently have better glycemic control.
