Implementation of an evidence-based intervention with safety net clinics to improve mammography appointment adherence among underserved women.
This study evaluated the implementation of an evidence-based intervention in safety-net clinics to improve mammography appointment adherence in underserved women called the Peace of Mind Program. The intervention was implemented in 19 Federally Qualified Health centers and charity care clinics within the Greater Houston area. Surveys were given prior to adoption and at eight weeks post implementation to assess Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research constructs. A total of 4402 women were surveyed (baseline period 2078, intervention period 2324). Women in the intervention period or who completed the intervention were more likely to attend or reschedule their mammography appointment than those who did not complete the intervention. A total of 15 clinics prior to adoption and eight clinics completed the survey post implementation.

Healthcare experiences of transgender people of color.
Researchers investigated how transgender people of color (TPOC) healthcare experiences are shaped by both race/ethnicity and gender identity. Using interviews and focus groups with participants in the Chicago area, they found that all participants described healthcare experiences where providers responded negatively to their race/ethnicity and/or gender identity. A majority of participants sought out healthcare locations designated as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender-friendly in an effort to avoid discrimination, but feared experiencing racism there. When describing positive healthcare experiences, participants were most likely to highlight providers' respect for their gender identity. The researchers concluded that TPOC have different experiences compared with white transgender or cisgender racial/ethnic minorities and recommended that providers improve understanding of intersectional experiences of TPOC to improve quality of care.

Clinician perspectives on the management of abnormal subcritical tests in an urban academic safety-net health care system.
Missed or delayed follow-up of abnormal subcritical tests (tests that do not require immediate medical attention) can lead to poor patient outcomes. Safety-net health systems with limited resources and socially complex patients are vulnerable to safety gaps resulting from delayed management. In this study, clinician perspectives to identify system challenges, vulnerable situations, and potential solutions, were sought in focus groups.
