The SHARE Approach: Shared Decisionmaking Tools and Training
This Quick Reference Guide provides an overview to the AHRQ SHARE Approach, a five-step process for shared decisionmaking that includes exploring and comparing the benefits, harms, and risks of each health care option through meaningful dialogue about what matters most to the patient. It links to communication and shared decisionmaking tools, as well as a 1-day train-the-trainer curriculum. By helping clinicians and patients use evidence-based information while working together to make the best possible treatment decisions, the SHARE Approach supports Key Driver 5: Engage with patients and families in evidence-based care and quality improvement.
