Premature mortality among adults with schizophrenia in the United States.
The objective of the study was to describe overall and cause-specific mortality rates and standardized mortality ratios for adults with schizophrenia compared with the US general population. In a US national cohort of adults with schizophrenia, excess deaths from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases implicate modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, including especially tobacco use.

Effect of a cognitive-behavioral prevention program on depression 6 years after implementation among at-risk adolescents: a randomized clinical trial.
The objective of this paper is to determine whether a cognitive-behavioral prevention (CBP) program reduced the incidence of depressive episodes, increased depression-free days, and improved developmental competence 6 years after implementation. Over the 75-month follow-up, youths assigned to CBP had a lower incidence of depression; the CBP program's overall significant effect was driven by a lower incidence of depressive episodes during the first 9 months after enrollment.

Psychosocial interventions for child disruptive behaviors: a meta-analysis.
The researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to synthesize existing literature on the comparative effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for children and adolescents, 18 years of age with disruptive behavior disorders. It concluded that the 3 intervention categories were more effective than the control conditions. Interventions with a parent component, either alone or in combination with other components, were likely to have the largest effect.

Improvement in patient-reported physical and mental health after parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) assessment in the clinical setting to measure changes in patient-reported health before and after parathyroidectomy. It found that PROMIS is an efficient clinical assessment platform for measuring patient-reported outcomes in primary hyperparathyroidism via computer-adaptive testing.

The relation of baseline skills to psychotherapy outcome across diverse psychotherapies.
The researchers explored the role of baseline skills deficits in compensatory skills and self-understanding across both cognitive and dynamic treatment modalities. Their results support a capitalization model for cognitive therapy but failed to support either a compensation model or a capitalization model for the short-term dynamic model.

Prevalence and correlates of anger in the community: results from a national survey.
This study assessed the prevalence, as well as the sociodemographic and clinical correlates of anger, in the general population and characterize adults that report inappropriate, intense, or poorly controlled anger. It found the overall prevalence of inappropriate, intense, or poorly controlled anger in the U.S. population was 7.8 percent. Anger was especially common among men and younger adults, and was associated with decreased psychosocial functioning.

Medical burden in bipolar disorder: findings from the Clinical and Health Outcomes Initiative in Comparative Effectiveness for Bipolar Disorder study (Bipolar CHOICE).
The present study examined common predictors of medical comorbidity for Individuals with bipolar disorder. It found that predictors of medical comorbidities in bipolar disorder included older age, early age of onset, more time spent depressed, less time spent manic/hypomanic, and longer duration of illness.

Use of antipsychotic medications in pediatric and young adult populations: future research needs.
This article describes and prioritizes future research needs regarding antipsychotic treatment in youth, focusing on within-class and between-class drug comparisons with regard to key population subgroups, efficacy and effectiveness outcomes, and adverse event outcomes. Future research needs are delineated in detail as well as study designs that could be used to address them.

Psychotherapy credibility ratings: patient predictors of credibility and the relation of credibility to therapy outcome.
The researchers examined the relation between credibility ratings for adult psychotherapies and various patient factors as well as the relation between credibility ratings and subsequent symptom change. Their findings indicate that patient beliefs after a brief exposure to treatment may influence symptom improvement. Age and education may influence the patient’s beliefs about the credibility of a treatment.
